June 9-13, Animation and Robotics (Grades 6-7)
Bring animated characters and robots to life using computers. Learn how the eye and brain work together to create the illusion of movement in animation. Develop a story line and movie set, then create your own film. Program a computer to make a Lego Mindstorms robot move and respond as if it were alive.
June 16-20, Forensics (Grades 5-6)
Be a crime scene investigator. Analyze fibers, bones, handwriting and DNA. Lift fingerprints, find hidden traces of blood and saliva, perform chemical tests, look for microbes under a microscope and more. Then solve each case using your senses, clues, logic and newly acquired investigation techniques.
**June 23-27, Make-It: Working Models (Grades 4-6)
Learn to do it yourself. Experiment with laws of physics and develop new craftsmanship skills while making working models. Engineer towers, bridges and domes. Make a propeller driven car. Build and launch your own solid fuel rocket and hot air balloon. Invent something new.
June 30-July 3, Junior Scientists: Explore a Multitude of Sciences (Kindergarten)
Through fun hands-on experiments and activities, young scientists will explore a wide range of science topics including: space, chemistry, biology, making toys and building structures.
**July 7-11, Make-It: Toy Box (Grades 1-3) Class is Full
Make your own toy box. Then fill it with lots of toys you create while learning the science behind how toys work. Make a kaleidoscope, sidewalk chalk, a balancing toy, a balloon car, a kite, a musical instrument, a space shuttle model that flies and much more.
July 7-11, Wildlife Biology (Grades 4-6)
Use the tools of biologists to study wildlife. Participants spend mornings at Zoo Boise and afternoons at DCI. Learn how satellites, radio telemetry and maps are used to track animals and to study the habitats animals need to survive. Explore how genetic tests help endangered animals. Examine wild animals’ intriguing anatomy and much more.
Drop off at Zoo Boise; Pick up at DCI
July 14-18, Science of Art (Grades 1-3)
Explore exciting connections between science and art. Experiment with color, sound, texture, scent and taste. Examine how our senses work and how they can be fooled by illusions. Create your own works of art and amazing illusions.
July 21-25, Space (Grades 1-2)
Be an astronaut. Design rockets. Explore the secrets of the planets, stars, comets and living in outer space. Find out what a shooting star really is and hold one in your hand. A Starlab planetarium presentation is included.
July 21-25, Explore, Experiment and Build [off-site] (Grades 1-3)
Explore exciting topics such as astronomy, geology, weather, electricity, chemistry and flight as DCI teams with Boise Parks and Recreation to offer camps at Lowell Elementary School.
9:00-12:00     $75.00
Drop off and Pick up at Lowell
No transportation from DCI
July 28-Aug 1, Outdoor Science (Grades 3-5)
Investigate science outdoors. Participants spend mornings at the Foothills Learning Center and afternoons at DCI. Perform environmental tests to solve a mystery. Study birds, geology, astronomy and maps. Find edible and useful plants. Cook, build shelters and track wildlife. Create backyard wildlife habitat.
Drop and Pick up at DCI
**Aug 4-8, Robotics I (Grades 1-3) Class is Full
Experiment with rovers, electronics and Lego Mindstorms while learning how robots work and where they are used in the modern world. Then build your own robot to take home.
August 4-8, Experiment, Build and Create [off-site] (Grades 4-6)
